Happy Birthday, Dizzy Gillespie!! We’ll be celebrating Dizzy and his music with Mike Longo’s NY State of the Art Jazz Ensemble, this evening, at the Baha’i Center NYC. Featured guests are Jimmy Owens, Annie Ross and Ira Hawkins. Mike was a long time band mate of Dizzy’s, and we’ll be playing music from the Gillespie Big Band book, including some written by Mike and Jimmy Owens, as well as their more recent compositions, written in tribute. We play one long set at 8pm, after which there will be a screening of a film concert featuring Dizzy Gillespie in his prime. $15 cover ($10 students). Hope to see you there!

Tonight, I’ll be joining Pedro Giraudo’s magnificent Big Band for a hit at the Zinc Bar, in Greenwich Village, NYC. Pedro’s written some astonishing music and I’m thoroughly looking forward to trying to play it!! 2 shows – 8pm & 10pm. Come on through…

Safe to say that today is a busy one!

This afternoon, from 1pm – 4:30 (1300-1630!) I’ll be presenting my workshop at Musikschule Mank. It’s not too late to come by! The ticket price is €35/20 (Activ/Passiv) – the Activ includes a ticket to the evening concert!

This evening, I’ll be playing Lead Trumpet and a couple of features with the RK Musik big band at their Frank Sinatra Tribute Concert in Stadtsaal Mank, at 19:30.

That’s the public events! Also, I’ll be playing a promo recording/video shoot, this morning, for a new project for 2015: The FireHorns. Then, of course, there’s the requisite rehearsal/Soundcheck between the workshop and the concert. It promises to be a long but fun day! Chops don’t fail me now….

This evening I’ll be performing at part of “The Long Night of the Trumpet” at the Wartburg Festival, up in the beautiful Wartburg Castle above Eisenach, Germany. The concert features recitals from 3 remarkable trumpeters and myself. I’m honored to be performing alongside Otto Sauter, Marek Zvolanek and Vlado Kumpan.
