Last Minute Trumpet Lesson Opportunities, This Week in Germany & Switzerland.

I’m writing from the plane, once again, to offer some last minute Trumpet/Brass Lesson slots in Europe.

On Tuesday, October 31 I’ll have 2 slots available in Leipzig, Germany from 11h00 to 13h00, and 14h00 to 16h00.

Then, I’ll have two free days in Zurich, Switzerland on Thursday, November 2 & Friday, November 3. I’ll take as many brass students as I can fit in!

If you’re interested, please contact me through the website. I’ll be checking messages when I arrive in Germany in the morning.

August 9, 2017 – Bryan’s Brass Player Surgery

Following some rescheduling of students, this morning, I find that tomorrow – Wednesday, August 9, 2017 – is, unusually, a completely free day with no lessons booked! Since this is, happily, a fairly rare occurrence for a weekday I thought I’d offer up the time for a “Brass Player Surgery“.

Here’s how it works:
I’ll be keeping Office Hours of 10:00AM to 6:00PM EDT. Rather than my usual “first lesson” slot of 2 hours, I’m offering the chance for anyone, whether they’ve taken a lesson with me or not, to book a lesson of as short as half an hour. (You can also book a longer lesson if you wish, in half hour increments.) These lessons can be conducted either in person at my home studio up here in Upper Manhattan, or on Skype. This is strictly on a first come, first served basis and open not only to Trumpet Players but to any Brass Instrumentalist. We can work on any technical or musical aspect of playing that you choose. I also have a small stock of my “Combination Drills” books, in both Treble & Bass Clef versions of both Volumes 1 & 2, available for purchase.

Pricing: $40 (USD) per half hour, $75 per hour. (90 mins – $115; 2 hours – $150 etc)

To set up a time, please visit my Contact Page and send me a message via the Contact Form, or if you’re reading this on Facebook you can send me a PM there.

For Skype lessons, payment must be made before the lesson. Please provide your Skype username in your message and then visit https://www.paypal.me/BryanDavisMusic to make your payment.

For In-Person Lessons, payment can be made at the lesson by Cash or Venmo, or you can use the PayPal link above. I’m located at W147th St & St. Nicholas Avenue in Manhattan, directly off the A, B, C & D subway trains. The precise address will be provided in by email.

Remember: this is first come, first served! Get booking and I’ll hope to speak to you tomorrow!

(If you wish to book for another day, we can do that too. However, standard details as found on the Teaching Page will apply.)

“Combination Drills. Volume 2” Now Available!

Following the release of “Combination Drills: Developed Scales in Odd Meters”, earlier in the year, I’m proud to announce that Volume 2 has just been published and is now available. Visit the Airflow Music Online Store to order your copy today!

“Combination Drills” is a collection of Developed Scale Exercises I originally wrote to familiarize myself with Odd/Asymmetric Meters I was struggling to sightread. Volume 1 had the patterns in 5/8 and 7/8, exploring the various rhythmic divisions in those meters. This 2nd Volume extends the patterns into 9/8 (expressed as an asymmetric 4 beats per bar, as well as the common compound 3) and 11/8 (expressed as both 4 and 5 asymmetric bears per bar!).

In addition, if practiced according to the enclosed instructions, they will work out a Combination of technical and musical skills, including:

  • Scales (fully notated Major, “Jazz” Minor, Harmonic Minor, Whole Tone and Diminished versions in all 12 keys)
  • Finger/Slide technique.
  • Slurring.
  • Tonguing – particularly developing a gentle single-tongue approach which rides the airstream throughout long phrases and across different registers.
  • Unifying the airflow approach between slurring and tonguing.
  • Connecting low and high registers.
  • Stabilizing the embouchure throughout register changes.
  • Developing breath support throughout long phrases and register changes.
  • Use of Breath Accents, both while slurring and tonguing.

The 1st Volume has been extremely well received by brass players all over the world. I hope that Volume 2 will garner similar praise!

Visit AirflowMusic.com to get your immediate PDF download today. The Airflow Music product pages also contain links to purchase printed books from Amazon.com and it’s regional variants around the world. (At the time of this post, printed copies of Volume 1 are available from almost all Amazon sites worldwide. However, Volume 2 is still filtering through the network, so we’ll be updating the Amazon links as they become available over the next week or two.)

Announcing “Combination Drills, Volume 1” by Bryan Davis

A couple of years ago, I wrote a blog post entitled “Combination Drills” in which I postulated collating a series of exercises to work on multiple areas of technique at once, in order to get better value from our practice time. Today, the book is out!

Both the Trumpet (i.e. treble clef) & Trombone (i.e. bass clef)  eBooks of “Combination Drills, Vol. 1” are now available from the new Airflow Music Online Store.

“Combination Drills” is a collection of Developed Scale Exercises I originally wrote to familiarize myself with Odd/Asymmetric Meters I was struggling to sightread. Volume 1 has the patterns in 5/8 and 7/8, exploring the various rhythmic divisions in those meters; e.g. 5/8 is often felt in an asymmetric 2, with ‘big’ beats of different lengths.

They’ve been so beneficial for me and many of my students, I wanted to make them more widely available. It’s been a trip setting up a publishing company and preparing an entire book. I hope you’ll think it was a worthwhile endeavour!

(For those who prefer printed books, those will be available via Amazon in the next week or so. Announcement post to follow!)
