Had a most enjoyable day in Mank, Austria yesterday; my afternoon workshop was warmly received and the concert in the evening was very good fun! My featured numbers were a couple of Maynard Ferguson charts, as requested by the bandleader; my good friend Robert Kerschbaumer. He chose to challenge me with Gonna Fly Now and Maria. Another friend, and sometime student, of mine – Peter Achim – was in the audience and posted this highlight reel from those two songs on YouTube. Just a brief taste, but I hope you enjoy – thanks Peter!
“Just Kiss Me” – HCJ Live on Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon
From the Jerry Lewis Telethon in 1991. Harry Connick Jr and the band playing “Just Kiss Me” with Roger Ingram at his sizzling best on Lead Trumpet! Unbelievable playing from the whole band!!
Eyal Vilner Big Band clip
A brief video clip from last Saturday’s gig with the Eyal Vilner Big Band, at Ginny’s Supper Club, in Harlem. This is an excerpt from Eyal’s fiendish chart on “Un Poco Loco”.
“Something’s Gotta Give”
Vintage Harry Connick Jr, and his orchestra, with the inimitable Roger Ingram on Lead Trumpet. Great sound and swing, not to mention astonishing range. To my mind, this is how Lead Trumpet should be played.
Double G in 3 minutes.
Damn. Somebody figured me out!!! 😉
